Hi, I am Kara and I am the  brain engine behind NZStreetlighting  - this is my who, what and why.

With a background in  senior business management and have been running my own company specialising in both energy management and LED streetlighting since 2011. 

 

I chose this industry because it is an area of both technical diversity, new challenges and always new problems which need a solution.  My brain works best when it is solving the next challenge, formulating the next calculator, challenging the norm.  My diverse upbringing in (then) new approaches to farming, sole-parenting and work choices that provide the foundation to a unique skillset, a rare approach to business accountability, strategy and I am often told I am like a breath of fresh air  -  jeans, heels, a hearty laugh, sprinkled with a good dose of facts.  Never one to allow the truth to get in the way of a good story, ​I am  logical, strategic and have a high level of integrity - I believe that everyone has their areas of expertise and working together to reach an end common goal is essential.

Because I have a truly unique blend of business savvy, accountability, cost efficiencies and accountability - I am very proud of my company - NZStreetlighting is a good flavour of business and continues to grow. 

 

It is true what they say - who you are is a true reflection of those who are in your life. The people who support me in doing what we do are professional, knowledgeable and real good sorts - that is they really know their stuff and walk their talk. I only work with the best of the best.  We are passionate about what we do and take our duties seriously, we provide quality workmanship and responsible management seriously. Together we diligently manage millions of dollars of public funds every year, hundreds of thousands of assets.  We care about our environment, and we take every install of every aspect seriously.  We are kaitiaki. ​

​​When I am not immersed in the world of electricity and lighting, I will usually be found out on our lifestyle property tending to cattle, pigs, dogs, the car, gardening in an extensive rural garden for all things rare and interesting or relaxing at my caravan home away from home, deep sea fishing off the West Coast.

I foster abandoned or orphaned neonatal puppies - my dog pack and I step up when needed - caring for the very very little ones till they are ready to go and find new homes (I warn you now, you will need excuse the state of me when you see the bags under my eyes - its the night feeds and constant poo) 

​

 My 'why' is to make the world a better place and be a very good human.
